Besides, they usually come with a pretty great backstory, like the always charming Shipwreck Cafe in Olympia. When you support this place (by ordering the most delicious breakfast of your life), you’re keeping this local institution alive.

It all started in the mid-90s when Kim and Sherri Mcquilkin were working at The Rib Eye (which closed many years ago.)

The couple had about 20 years of restaurant experience and they decided it was time to open their own restaurant. They bought The Shipwreck Cafe in 1995 and got to work making it the fantastic space it is today.
In the restaurant's early years, Kim and Sherri had no working capital.

Some small local businesses did extend them credit because of their great reputations but for the first few years, they'd take the money they made that day and go buy food for the next day.
Fortunately, thanks to their stellar reputations and delicious food, The Shipwreck Cafe did turn a profit.

After 24 years, the couple sold the cafe to its current owners, Aaron and Roni Sue Phyllis.
This restaurant may be under new ownership, but most of the menu remains the same.
