Washington State is full of natural beauty and abundant parks. There is no shortage of fun, family activities in the Pacific Northwest. It’s not uncommon for families to spend the day relaxing at a waterfront park or hiking through forested trails. But did you know the small town of Granger is home to one of the most unique parks in the state? Nestled in the Yakima Valley you’ll find Granger’s Hisey Park, where you can step back in time. We’re talking way back in time – prehistoric time, to be exact!
City planners discussed ways to revitalize Main Street and the downtown area of Granger. They came up with the idea of a dinosaur theme, and in 1994 began the dinosaur project.

The very first dinosaur constructed was a baby Brontosaurus.
Granger’s Public Works Department was tasked with the challenge of creating dinosaurs for the city of Granger. They experimented with various construction techniques and refined the process to come up with the realistic dinosaur sculptures you see in Hisey Park and downtown Granger.
Unlike the fragile fossils of dinosaurs in museums, the Granger dinosaurs are designed for play. Feel free to get up close and personal with these mighty beasts, and don’t forget your camera!

Though most of Granger’s dinosaurs lurk in Hisey Park, you can see more of these prehistoric creatures on the Granger Dinosaur Drive through Main Street and downtown.
