Outside of the month of October, fans of the creepy and macabre don’t always have it easy. You tend to see suggestions for creepy road trips in Washington in the fall, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy spooky places all year round. We’ve got a great haunted day trip for you in the Evergreen State that you can enjoy no matter the season. This trip near Seattle will take you to a cemetery that’s the subject of spooky tales, and then afterwards you’ll stop by a great pub that’s, you guessed it, allegedly haunted.
Woodinville is an unsuspecting-looking suburb of Seattle. It looks pretty typical and visitors may be unaware of all the creepy urban legends that surround the cemetery here.
Maltby Cemetery, 19403 NE 203rd Pl, Woodinville, WA 98077, USA
Woodinville's Maltby Cemetery is said to be one of the most haunted cemeteries in Washington. There are so many ghost stories surrounding the graveyard that it's hard to keep track of them all.
The staircase was in the middle of the cemetery and the steps seemed to lead nowhere, going down into the earth. It is said that they led to a family's underground tomb. Supposedly, if you walked down the steps, you suddenly couldn't hear anything above you, even though you were only a few feet away. Turning around towards the bottom of the steps would allegedly show you a glimpse of hell. According to local stories, people would sometimes go down the steps and never return. The steps were demolished several decades ago, but legends still persist about them.
According to local legend, the bar is haunted by a ghost who enjoys playing at the piano when the bar is empty. Employees and guests often report feeling cold drafts of air blow by even when the doors are shut, or feeling a presence behind them.
Even if you don't believe in the scary stories surrounding the bar, it's still a great place to stop by for a meal!
