Welcome to Amma's Umma, a locally-owned boutique for world changers in Port Angeles, Washington.
Located right in the heart of downtown along 1st Street, Amma's Umma is a single-mom-owned business with big dreams. It's in this charming boutique shop that you'll be introduced to a variety of intentionally and ethically sourced products from around the world.
Amma's Umma is a dream come true for business owner Chelsea Winfield. The idea for the business was born out of a passion for India, ethical orphan care, and adoption. Winfield sought to open a shop with a focus on supporting women artisans and helping children find families, so she did!
Believe it or not, Winfield started Amma's Umma with nothing but a cardboard box of fair trade earrings in the back of her car, plus a very basic website. Today, the boutique serves thousands of loyal customers within a gorgeous brick-and-mortar location and they've donated more than $20,000 to adoption efforts.
It's clear that Amma's Umma is on a world-changing mission - a mission that customers can be a part of when they purchase something from the store. The boutique boasts a wide, ever-changing selection of products, from clothing and jewelry to plants and decor.
Many of the store's items are made right here in the USA. Otherwise, all products are ethically sourced from purpose-driven companies. There's something for all tastes and styles at Amma's Umma, and you can always feel good about your purchase since 50% of the store's profits are donated to domestic adoption projects in India. So don't be afraid to shop 'til you drop.
Upon walking into the shop's cozy and inviting space, you'll find yourself surrounded by specialty goods of all kinds. The friendly staff are adamant about finding exactly what you need, so be sure to ask for guidance if you need it!
Whether you're looking for a specific item or simply some gift-giving inspiration, perusing the store's selection of unique goods is an absolute treat. With new products constantly coming in, Amma's Umma is the type of boutique where you can unearth something special with every visit. And although the physical store may close at 5 p.m., the online store is open 24/7 for your clothing and gift needs! The online store is especially great if you'd like to show your support for this small business from afar.
Amma's Umma is dedicated to helping women feel confident, beautiful, and empowered - both the customers who walk through the shop's door and the women artisans who create these beautiful products.
They've consistently shown their support by plugging into the community wherever there is a need. During last year's pandemic, the shop was able to donate 2,500 organic, fair trade masks to the local hospital. This benefitted both the front-line workers who needed the masks and the store's artisan group, as it kept the artisans working despite the business shut-down. Amma's Umma is also sure to feature businesses with a mission that's aligned with theirs. Starfish Project is one of the product offerings you can currently find at the boutique. It's one of the business owner's favorites, as they work to train and equip women recovering from being trafficked by providing education on business skills and how to make fine jewelry.
With such a great mission at the forefront, it's no wonder Amma's Umma has already built such a tight-knit community of customers and artisans.
Winfield attributes the boutique's success to its incredible customer base. "We exist to serve and amplify [customers]. They have been champions for the cause and vision of Amma's Umma and we could not be more grateful," Winfield says.
When asked about her favorite part of being a business owner, Winfield adamantly replies that it is "creating the connections I have with both the artisan groups we work with and the customers who come in our door."
She continues, "I have made some lifelong friendships with truly beautiful women and I am beyond humbled that my business has allowed for that to occur."
