When you feel like you’ve hiked every hike, seen every movie and enjoyed your favorite restaurant meal more times than you can count, all that’s left to do is go off the beaten path and blaze a new trail. Luckily, Washington has plenty of spots for offbeat adventures. These are a few of our favorites.
1. Dorky's Arcade, 754 Pacific Ave., Tacoma
Not only is this expansive arcade a gamer's paradise full of classics and modern games, but the bar is stocked with bottles and cans of unique beer (over 100 options, to be exact). Best of all, when you need a break, you can feast on Puget Sound Pizza.
2. Sharky's, 699 Ocean Shores Blvd NW, Ocean Shores
Admittedly, half the fun of visiting Sharky's is posing for a funny pic at the ominous entrance. But go inside and you'll find a great variety of gifts, souvenirs, and, yes, some shark memorabilia.
3. Yard Birds Mall, 2100 N National Ave., Chehalis
Yard Birds is, without a doubt, one eclectic sight. With over 50 unique vendors under one giant roof, it's no wonder this is a top roadside stop on the drive from Seattle to Portland.
4. The Hobbit House at The Brothers Greenhouses, 3200 Victory Dr. SW, Port Orchard
Shopping for plants is rarely this awesome. The hobbit house is open during business hours all year long, and greenhouse guests are encouraged to explore it.
5. Steam Plant Square, 159 S Lincoln St., Spokane
The iconic Steam Plant was recently renovated,. This was the first historic building in Spokane to receive the prestigious National Preservation Honor Award, and it was well-deserved. From the unique shops to the magnificent event space and the restaurant serving delicious local fare, this is a must-see when you're in Spokane.
6. The Fremont Troll, Seattle
Seattle's famous troll lives under a bridge (naturally), and taking pictures with him has become somewhat of a rite of passage.
7. Seattle Meowtropolitan, 1225 N 45th St., Seattle
After your Fremont troll time, you can head to Seattle's first cat cafe and enjoy a latte while you play with feisty felines. The cats actually make great coffee dates.
8. Troll Haven Farms, 950 Gardiner Beach Rd.,
Sequim
Troll Haven is a magical, mystical sanctuary that was created for people to let their imaginations run wild. It's the perfect place for a fairytale wedding or a weekend getaway.
9. Fall City Wallaby Ranch, 35327 SE Fish Hatchery Rd.
At this adorable ranch, you can arrange for a tour and get up close and personal with the wallabies. They're even up for adoption.
