If you’ve called Washington home for a while, you know we take our food truck scene very seriously. All of our major cities and plenty of our smaller towns now have these mobile food options, and some of them have some delicious menu items that aren’t easy to find here in the Evergreen State. Off the Rez is owned by Mark McConnell and Cecilia Rikard, a longtime couple.

Mark's mother grew up on the Blackfeet Reservation in Browning, Montana, so he was raised on traditional frybread and Indian tacos.
When Mark moved to Seattle, he searched for good Native cuisine, but he couldn't find what he was looking for.

He and Cecilia successfully opened the Off the Rez food truck. They also have a second location, at the Burke Museum on the University of Washington campus.
While both locations serve frybread tacos, there are some differences in the menu.

The cafe tends to focus on soups, salads, and espresso beverages. When you visit, see if they're serving clam or salmon chowder that day.
The food truck also offers more than just tacos, including a small but mighty burger menu.

The Navajo invented this frybread in 1844 using the flour, sugar, salt and lard that was given to them by the United States government when the Navajo were forced to make their 300 mile journey to New Mexico. It remains a popular Native staple to this day.
Off the Rez serves Classic Chili Tacos with beef, chicken, or veggie chili topped with cheddar cheese, iceberg lettuce, cumin, crema, pickled red onions and cilantro.

You can also try the BBQ pulled pork tacos, which come topped with honey BBQ sauce and cabbage slaw.
