If you’ve ever visited the San Juan Islands, you’re probably familiar with names like Lopez Island, Orcas Island, and San Juan Island’s most popular town, Friday Harbor. But did you know there are actually a whopping 172 named islands and reefs in San Juan County?
Most of the 172 islands don’t have ferry service, and many are completely unpopulated. This is where you’ll find some of the most rugged territory in the northwest, including the beautiful but secluded James Island. Visiting this enchanting spot will allow you to completely unplug (mainly because there’s no WiFi or cell service).
James Island lies in Rosario Strait just off the eastern shore of Decatur Island and three miles west of the city of Anacortes.
These are some of the best views of the sea you'll find anywhere.
Between the emerald coves, forested trails, spectacular views, and the lack of ferry access, this just might be your dream vacation spot when you need to get away from it all.
