In 1899, Spokane judge John W. Binkley purchased two lots in downtown Spokane and built a three-story red brick building. He named it after “Montvale Farms,” his beloved country estate on the Little Spokane River.
These days, the Montvale Hotel is a well-known destination, especially in Eastern Washington. Not only is it across the street from several theaters, it’s within walking distance of some of Spokane’s finest spots. As an added bonus, you’ll get a local history lesson.

The rooms were heated by steam heat from coal-powered steamers in the basement. By 1914, the rooms all had washbasins with hot and cold running water, built-in wardrobe closets, and furnishings.
