Walk By Lantern Light During This Whimsical Winter Outing In Washington
Fort Vancouver is a national historic site that makes a great day trip destination in any season. Located on the north bank of the Columbia River, this old trading post and military site is known for the tasty Eatery at the Grant House and informative Visitor Center. And if you happen to go during the winter, you can see the site in a whole new light — by candlelight, that is. The annual Lantern Tour Series starts soon, and you’ll love it.

This old 19th-century fur trading post was a major center of the regional fur trading, and since 1948, it has been a U.S. National Monument.

Obviously, there was no electricity when the fort was first built, so seeing it this way feels more authentic.

It's a wonderful opportunity to experience the property at night and learn all about its history. The adults in the group will each get to carry a candlelit lantern, and you'll walk through the reconstructed fort's Counting House, Fur Store, Chief Factor's House, Kitchen, and Bake House.

You'll talk about the daily activities at the fort and what would have taken place at each building you visit.

At the end of your tour, you'll return your lantern and enjoy a cup of hot cider to help you warm up.

You'll have to pay and reserve your spot in advance, so make sure to plan ahead for this unique walk back through time.
