If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path trail that most Washingtonians haven’t even heard of, much less walked, you can’t go wrong with the Lake Angeles Trail.

While you might see some people fly fishing or even swimming on a warm summer day, for the most part, it stays pretty quiet here.

To reach the trailhead, just exit US-101 near milepost 249, following Race Street south 1.2 miles to Hurricane Ridge Road. Proceed on Hurricane Ridge Road for about 5 miles and turn right just before the park entrance booth.

You'll climb over 2,300 feet in just 3.5 miles, which will leave even the most experienced hiker breathless.

You'll traverse through shaded second-growth forest with rows of dense hemlock, enjoying nothing but peace and quiet (and the soothing sounds of nature).

Views of Klahhane Ridge and Mount Angeles tower high overhead, while the sunshine turns the lake a lovely teal green. Lake Angeles is about 20 acres in size, with a small island in the middle that’s surrounded by fresh mountain water.
