If you’ve never heard of the town of Joyce, you’re certainly not alone. This tiny community in Clallam County is located about 15 miles west of Port Angeles, and it’s named after its 1913 founder, Joseph M. Joyce. And while there’s not much to the town itself, it does have one major draw you should see if you happen to find yourself there — the century-old Joyce General Store.

The general store first opened in 1911, making it the longest continually operating general store in Washington.

Back then, it was common for the town general store to also serve as the post office, which this place continues to do to this day.
The oiled floors, beaded ceiling, many of the fixtures, and several other details are originally from the Markham House Hotel at Port Crescent.
