If you’ve ever been to the Olympic Peninsula, you’re probably aware that it seems a little surreal. Between the foggy coastline, the sea stacks in the ocean and the lush forests, it looks like the setting for a fairytale. And there’s one particular trail, called the Hall of Mosses, that will make you feel like you’ve wandered into the pages of a storybook.

The Hall of Mosses is located inside the Hoh Rainforest at Olympic National Park.

The trail is lined with old trees, mostly bigleaf maples and Sitka spruces draped in moss.

The Hoh sees up to 14 feet of rain every year, and that’s what creates the lush green canopy that covers most of the forest.

The abundance of water and nutrients gives the trees stunted roots, so they can fall easily. But the moss and trees grow right over their fallen comrades, adding to the mystical appearance.
