Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
Seattle is no stranger to innovation. As the birthplace of American staples like Starbucks and grunge music, Seattle has a special magic to it that can’t be beaten (okay, if we’re being real here, the entire state of Washington has a special magic that can’t be beaten, but you catch our drift). Well, did you know that Seattle, Washington, is also likely the birthplace of the comic book store as we know it? It’s true! Golden Age Collectables is not just the oldest comic book shop in Washington – nope, it might just be the oldest comic book shop in the entire industry.
Nestled within the world-famous Pike Place Market is Golden Age Collectibles.
It all started in 1971, when a 19-year-old enthusiast purchased his favorite comic book store. Over the years, it grew into not just a local staple but a national phenomenon. With the publication of the official Comic Book Price Guide (also in 1971), as well as a boost from the Star Wars franchise, the business took off, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Having originally been founded in 1961 - a decade before the current owner took over - this little comic book shop is quite literally the oldest of its kind.
It's been a trailblazer and pioneer ever since, and we couldn't be more excited about it.

From the moment you walk in, you'll be transported back in time to the days where you could hang out in a shop just like this one for hours, talking your favorite storylines with the knowledgeable clerk behind the counter.
Well, really, those days didn't go anywhere. We all just grew into adulthood - but that's okay, because places like Golden Age Collectibles exist, and as a result, we can walk into a shop just like we did in the old days and talk comics like we always used to.
You'll find more than just comics here, too! Check out the seemingly infinite supply of collectible figurines, trading cards, tabletop games, and so much more.
Inventory is updated frequently, so there's always something new to check out at the oldest comic book store in Washington (and the world).
You'll run into beloved characters old and new - from your childhood days to your current interests - while you're here, and we're pretty sure you'll never want to leave.
But, in all seriousness, Golden Age Collectibles truly lives up to its name; it represents, well, the golden age of our lives, when all we had to worry about was our grades and maybe some chores (as well as when the next Batman comic would be coming out).
Have you ever visited the oldest comic book shop in Washington? Tell us your thoughts (and about your favorite comics/collectibles) in the comments! We love photos, too! For the most up-to-date hours, specials, and inventory, check out the official Golden Age Collectables website.
