Fall tends to conjure up two types of Washingtonians: those who love to celebrate the season with apple picking, pumpkin spice, farm days, and fall foliage, and those who simply want to be scared senseless until November 1. And while it’s entirely possible to be both, this weekend getaway in Washington is designed with the former in mind. If you love sweaters, soups, squash, farm life, and u-pick apples, you’ll love this autumn weekend adventure.

Pack your bags and head for Lynden, where Bellewood Farms awaits with some of the best fall foliage in Washington – and apples too, of course.

Where can you go apple picking in Washington?

Washington is one of the best places around to experience amazing apples with dozens of U-pick farms. Here are a few places to go apple picking in Washington in the fall:

  • The Farm at Swan's Trail, Snohomish, WA: Every mid-September, come to the farm to pick your own apples and strawberries and take part in fall festivities. Some of the farm favorites include Jonagold, Gala, and Honeycrisp apples. Of course, the hay rides, duck races, corn maze, and pumpkin patch are also a big hit.
  • Ray French Orchard, Richland, WA: Not only does this U-pick orchard have apples, but you can grab peaches, nectarines, and cherries too! The best part about going straight to the source and picking your own fruit is that you get out in nature and spend time with loved ones.
  • Green Bluff High Country Orchard, Colbert, WA: The beautiful Green Bluff area of Washington is the perfect spot to go apple picking. Along with apples, you can also pick peaches, cherries, plums, and apricots. This farm is also a hot spot for weddings and events with more to see and do than just picking some of the best fruit in Washington.
  • BelleWood Farms, Lynden, WA: This may just be the largest apple orchard in Western Washington, that's why we featured it above. Honeycrisp apples are a hot item as well as the 22 other varieties you have to choose from. They also have pears! Even better is the cafe and bakery for trying out some apple-delicious goodies. Not only can you pick your own apples, but you can stroll the 62 acres of farmland and a forested trail along 10-Mile Creek.
