If you’ve lived in the Pacific Northwest for awhile, you’ve probably heard of the McMenamin family. For decades, the McMenamins have opened pubs, breweries, event venues, and hotels in Oregon and Washington, including this one in Bothell. Each property has their telltale whimsical decor and sells their local brew. Recently, they converted an old Elks Temple from 1916 into one of their multipurpose properties, and you’ll definitely want to explore it.
McMenamins Elks Temple opened on April 24, after years of anticipation from the locals.
The building is a historic Beaux Arts Fraternal building that dates all the way back to 1916. It had been abandoned for years when McMenamins purchased it in 2007.
The building has been carefully and lovingly restored, and now it's ready for guests.
The menu includes creative fare like Gaucho Steak Bites, The Tao of Tacos, and something called Wheel of Fortune Cookie, which we can only assume is amazing.
The bars and the halls are filled with fantastic artwork that adds a vibrant touch.
The artwork also decorates the rooms, often including hints of local history.
As fun as it is to spend time here, this is one place you won't mind leaving... but only because of the Spanish Steps, which are adjacent to the building.
Modeled after the Scalinata di Spagna in Rome, these steps were built in 1916 to connect a streetcar line on Broadway with City Hall.
You can learn more about this magnificent addition to Tacoma here. And if you’re looking for a Hawaiian vacation without leaving Washington, check out Kalama Harbor Lodge, another McMenamins property.
