I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
It’s time to explore some of the most jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring natural wonders around The Evergreen State. Are you up for an adventure like a caves and waterfalls road trip in Washington? We hope you said yes and are ready to hit the road with your snacks and road-tripping playlist!
So gas up the car for this getaway that’s best done over the course of two or three days. At 465 miles, this trip requires nearly 11 hours of drive time. You can view the interactive map to help you plan.
The first stop on this adventure is Cascade Falls. Located within the 5,400-acre Moran State Park, this 40-foot waterfall is the tallest one on the San Juan Islands. Learn more about this waterfall on the Washington Trails Association website.
The 1,380-acre Wallace Falls State Park is home to a gorgeous 265-foot waterfall. Wallace Falls is certainly one of the most impressive falls in Washington and is worthy of a spot on anyone's bucket list.
With ice found in the 650-foot-long Guler Ice Caves year-round, this is one Washington natural wonder you won't want to miss! This cave is made of a series of lava tubes and is accessible via a staircase from the surface.
This cave system is made of lava tubes and is over two miles long, the third longest of its kind in North America. When you visit, make sure you dress in warm layers and bring a couple of flashlights or headlamps. You can learn more about the Ape Cave Interpretive Site on the USDA website.
