Having grown up in Washington, Andrea is a self-admitted Pacific Northwest snob. In their opinion, there's simply nowhere else in the country with the Evergreen State's beauty. After attending university, Andrea devoted themselves to writing full-time. They're thrilled to represent Washington for Only In Your State while pursuing other professional and personal projects. They currently reside in Olympia, where they enjoy leaf-blowing their yard, perfecting homemade ramen, cuddling with their three tiny dogs, and feeding their pufferfish, Sea Biscuit.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Are you planning a trip to Seattle and looking for the perfect place to stay in the city? This list of the Emerald City’s seven most desirable accommodations is a great place to start. Though it’s well known for its array of fabulous accommodations, I think these may be the best hotels in Seattle.
There may not be too many years between Seattle and its rugged past, but the boom-bust genesis of this beloved city feels miles away when you visit Mayflower Park Hotel.
Since its doors opened in 1927, the Mayflower has been a local institution and a first-choice pick for out-of-towners who want something luxe. It claims to be the oldest continually-running accommodation in Seattle's downtown and was awarded the country's "Best Historic Hotel" in 2017 by Historic Hotels of America.
Another titan of glamorous local digs is the Fairmont Olympic Hotel. It occupies the University of Washington's former location, debuting as the Olympic Hotel when it first welcomed guests in 1924. Its development had the support of the local government. Following World War I, Seattle's Chamber of Commerce wanted to create a world-class hotel in the city. This stunning accommodation is still managing to raise the bar.
Are you looking to get out of downtown? Check out Shafer Baillie Mansion Bed & Breakfast in Seattle's gorgeous Capitol Hill neighborhood. The atmosphere of this luxurious, 14,000-square-foot 1914 Tudor revival mansion buzzes with the moodiness of a bygone era, but its amenities are all-modern. You couldn't take a more romantic getaway in the best area to stay in Seattle.
Speaking of the Emerald City's most beloved neighborhoods, few are more idyllic than Green Lake. If your travels take you to this desirable area, check out Green Lake Guest House. This five-bedroom 1920 craftsman oozes vintage charm. It's also one of the few B&Bs these days that actually provides breakfast!
If you're hunting for the best place to stay in Seattle near the University of Washington, nowhere's got more character than the College Inn Hotel. This venerable building dates back to 1909 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. With two cafes downstairs and one of my favorite pubs in the basement, a weekend here delivers you the fun of college with none of the stress.
In a review of the best hotels in Seattle, none are more iconic than The Edgewater Hotel on the pier. This four-story luxury hotel may resemble the cruise lines that now take harbor at Seattle's waterfront, but it pre-dates them.
Though it first welcomed guests in 1962, a visit from the Beatles at the height of their fame in 1964 made this Emerald City institution a world-wide revelation. A famous photo of the band fishing from their hotel suite's window remains one of their most beloved images, capturing the superstars' camaraderie and playful humor.
Though it may not be quite as famous as the Edgewater, my personal favorite entry on this list is the Seattle Gaslight Inn. If you love immaculate craftsman charm and access to some of the best dining in the state, then this cozy B&B is your ideal home base.
Are you looking for where to stay in Seattle? This list of the Emerald City’s seven best accommodations will give you a good head start. Though there are plenty of fantastic places to camp out in town, these are the best hotels in Seattle.
