I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Don’t you just love biting into a juicy burger? Best of all, you can find some of the best burgers at small roadside stops around the state, not just at a restaurant. For some of the best burgers in Washington, hit the road and head to Eastside Big Tom in Olympia. This roadside eatery has stood the test of time and offers delicious burgers and other delectable eats.
Eastside Big Tom first opened in 1948 as In and Out Hamburgers. In 1969, however, it was purchased by the Fritsch family who changed the name to Eastside Big Tom. It has been owned by a member of the Fritsch family ever since.
While Eastside Big Tom is quite noticeable with its dinosaur park, which makes it a fun, quirky roadside attraction, its burgers are also worth the stop.
You can order your burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, shakes, fries, and more either at the window, inside, or at the drive-thru. There is seating inside as well as outdoors when the weather is nice.
The burger menu has quite a few options. You can always order a regular burger or regular cheeseburger with a side of French fries, tater tots, or onion rings.
If you have a bigger appetite, try the Big Tom or Little Tom. Each has two burger patties with double cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, and the famous goop sauce.
However, if you just want one burger patty, a Deluxe Burger or Deluxe Cheese will be the best choices.
It's not all meat here, however. For those who don't eat meat (or just don't want to), a BOCA patty is another option. And if you don't eat gluten, gluten-free buns are also available.
Whatever you choose to eat here at Eastside Big Tom, do yourself a favor and order a milkshake. There's a long list of flavors including peanut butter, maple, marshmallow, Oreo, Dr. Pepper, and salted caramel. Delicious!
