Washington state is one of the most naturally stunning areas of the country. It stands to reason, then, that its buildings would be equally as beautiful — and are they ever. Especially when those buildings incorporate the Washington landscape that we know and love.
It’s for this very reason that the hilltop chapel at Red Willow Vineyard creates such a striking image. Residing over acres of beautiful rolling hills with the mountains as its backdrop, this unassuming stone chapel is a welcome site to all visitors.
The Hilltop Chapel at Red Willow Vineyard can be found within the bountiful lands of the Yakima Valley in southwestern Washington. It resides within the Yakima Indian Reservation, along the gorgeous south slopes of Ahtanum Ridge. The beautiful stone building looks over four blocks of vines and fruit, which supply over 15 wineries with exquisite wines.
Red Willow Vineyard opened its doors in 1971 as an expansion of an already-existing family farm. The vineyard is named for the beautiful sumacs that filled the canyon. It is with this strong tie to the land that both the business and the chapel evolved.
This structure is unquestionably a breathtaking vision, for anyone seeking a spiritual experience or otherwise. This hilltop chapel is constructed of stones from the original farmland and took nearly three years to complete. While a chapel may seem an unusual accessory for a vineyard, it has actually been a major draw to the area.
As stated on Red Willow’s website, the chapel is something of a focal point for tours and it’s also one of the most highly-photographed places in the area at any season. As these photographs show, it could very well be one of the most picturesque chapels in all of Washington.
And of course, the vineyard itself is also pristine in its own rite. Especially with the wandering wild horses, sweeping mountain backdrop, and unparalleled sunsets.
Even when viewed from a great distance, the chapel still stands out from its surroundings. Having been built from the beautiful landscape, it seems to serve as a reminder of the incredible things that can be grown from the land.
The chapel at Red Willow Vineyard is located at 500 N Stephenson Road, Wapato WA. Have you visited this gorgeous chapel in Washington? For more amazing buildings such as this one, be sure to check out these 11 Beautiful Churches In Washington State.
