Bid Summer Adieu With This Stunning Lake Hike In Washington
Do you feel hints of autumn in the air? Fear not — there’s still plenty of time to enjoy hiking season here in Washington! In fact, depending on where you go, late August to mid-September is actually the best time to hike. Just head to the Central Cascades in Washington and find the Barclay Lake Trail, and you’ll see what we mean.

Near milepost 41, take a left onto 635th Place NE. That road will eventually become FR-6024, and in about four miles, you'll reach the trailhead.

And while you can access the trail for most of the year, late summer and early fall have proven to be the best (and most scenic) times to go.

This area has long recovered from clear-cut status, so it's nice and forested. You'll spot Douglas firs, western hemlocks, and red cedars along the way.

Then, continue half a mile and you'll reach Barclay Lake’s north shore.

Check out the reflections of evergreens and the sky in the clear, peaceful waters.

That being said, in August and September, you'll see a lot of sunny, dry days.

If you prefer to hike alone, go on a weekday and start your adventure early.
