Winter is often a time of reflection, peacefulness, and…let’s face it…staying indoors. Those chilly temperatures can seem especially foreboding when we’re cozied up inside by a fireplace or heater. But as most Virginians know, to stay inside all winter long is to miss out on the magic of the season. Just about every town in this state puts on some sort of production or festival to welcome winter. Here are 8 unforgettable winter festivals for you to enjoy this season:
The Merry Old Town Annual Greater Manassas Christmas Parade is an old fashioned festival in the best sense of the term. Santa is scheduled to arrive on the Polar Express train just after 6:00, accompanied by music and other festivities. Details: December 2nd on the Manassas Museum Lawn.
Blacksburg's Winter Lights Festival is jam-packed with Christmas events. From a Santa and Mrs. Claus performance at the historic Lyric Theatre to the tree lighting ceremony followed by orchestra holiday music, this event is fun for the whole family. Details: December 2nd in downtown Blacksburg.
Is there any combination better than "oldies" Christmas music and authentic Chesapeake Oysters? Absolutely not, according to the planners behind this Heathsville winter festival.
