Hiking trails are often associated with spring and summer, yet winter can be an equally rewarding time to embark on an outdoor adventure. If you’re prepared with plenty of layers and proper footwear, many of Virginia’s trails can be downright magical. One example is the famous Cascades Falls Trail. Not only can you look forward to a peaceful four-mile excursion, but the waterfall is awe-inspiring this time of year. Here’s more on why you might consider a winter hike to Cascades Falls.
Just outside of Pembroke, Virginia awaits a breathtaking trail known as Cascades Falls. This trek is popular, especially during warmer months, so winter offers the perfect opportunity to visit.
Depending on the weather, you might even discover that a portion of the waterfall is frozen! This unique phenomenon will make the adventure all the more memorable.
After admiring the waterfall, hikers can continue along a slightly different route if they feel like enjoying an overlook of the mountains. A trail map near the parking area will highlight all of the different routes available in the area.
Most opt for the out-and-back route, which totals between four and five miles. No matter which trail sequence you follow, you're bound to fall in love with the beautiful scenery of these Appalachian Mountains in southwest Virginia.
