When most people think of hiking through Virginia, visions of woods and mountain overlooks often come to mind. But what if we told you there was a breathtaking island hike right here in the Old Dominion? A quick trip to Smith Mountain Lake State Park will reveal an otherworldly hike known as the Turtle Island Trail. Take a quick look at the following photographs to catch a glimpse of what’s in store:
Turtle Island Trail is a unique loop in Smith Mountain Lake State Park that measures about 1.2 miles in length and is classified as easy.
The most spectacular portion of the loop is the segment that crosses over to Turtle Island. Making your way over the narrow strip of land and small bridge, you'll feel as though you've arrived in another world.
