There’s nothing like taking a dip in a refreshing natural swimming hole, especially after a rather challenging hike. Today’s feature destination is just that — plus it offers something even more fun: a rope swing! The trek to the famous Devil’s Bathtub — a hidden gem swimming hole in and of itself — actually includes another place to swim that isn’t the bathtub. This first swimming hole is bigger than the main attraction and with its crystal-clear water and rope swing, is a truly stellar summer adventure.
Located in Fort Blackmore, Virginia awaits a hiking destination that may have featured on their bucket list: Devil's Bathtub.
Reachable only via a pretty difficult hiking trail, Devil's Bathtub and the nearby swimming hole are all the more rewarding. Hike it on a hot summer's day and you can look forward to taking a dip in the wonderfully refreshing spring water.
The first swimming hole you'll encounter is simply breathtaking. This isn't Devil's Bathtub, but it is worth exploring! The gorgeous waterfall, crystal-clear water, and rope swing make this the perfect summer destination.
If you visit during the off-season, you'll enjoy fewer crowds, and you can still admire the crystal clear color of the water without actually swimming in it.
It's also important to note that on the way to the swimming hole, hikers will cross nearly a dozen streams. The area is also prone to flash flooding, so please be mindful of weather forecasts.
If the water level of the stream crossings ever reaches above knee-level, it's best to abandon the hike and come back another day.
