To renew your appreciation for the beauty of Virginia, there’s nothing like a scenic drive. And while the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive are obvious candidates, there are loads of back roads that prove just as beautiful. One prime example is known as Snickersville Turnpike. Located in northern Virginia, this scenic back road in Virginia is the perfect setting for you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery as you cruise.
Snickersville Turnpike is a beautiful, meandering rural Virginia Byway that connects the towns of Aldie and Bluemont in Loudoun County.
The turnpike is steeped in history. In the late 1700s, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law that would authorize the route as a toll road. Thomas Jefferson was one of the overseers of the project.
Hundreds of years prior to the establishment of the route, the Iroquois would hunt in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain, using what eventually became the roadbed as their main trail.
Driving along the road today, visitors won't help but appreciate the ancient history of the area as well as its pastoral beauty. It's a road that will inspire you to roll the windows down and breathe in the fresh air -- assuming it's not too cold out!
So whether you're fascinated by the history of the land or simply enjoy scenic drives, you'll find there's a lot to appreciate about the Snickersville Turnpike.
