It’s one of the most famous landmarks in Virginia, and it just so happens to be one of the handful of World Heritage Sites in the U.S., let alone Virginia. The primary residence of Thomas Jefferson, Monticello is significant both for its history and its architecture. In 1987, Monticello along with UVA were designated together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
