Hiking trails in Virginia are plentiful. From the famous Appalachian Trail to the many, many treks throughout Shenandoah National Park, there’s no shortage of ways to get out and explore the great outdoors. Yet if you’re looking for ones that are accessible or stroller-friendly, the options can seem more limited. Fortunately, there’s one tucked away in central Virginia that has it all.
I discovered the Saunders-Monticello Trail after a recommendation for hiking trails in Charlottesville and was truly impressed. Not only does this trail offer both old-growth forests and Blue Ridge Mountain views, but it also happens to lead to one of the region’s most impressive landmarks: Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. And, to top it all off, the impeccably maintained trail is a manageable four miles round trip with ten gently curving boardwalks. Let’s take a closer look, shall we?
