Welcome to False Cape State Park! This beautiful, unspoiled stretch of beachfront can be found nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and Back Bay.

False Cape got its name due to the fact that from the ocean, False Cape can easily be mistaken for Cape Henry, which is about 20 miles north. Sailors and navigators who confused the two would often be led into the shallow waters of False Cape, where their ship would oftentimes run aground. This special park can only be reached by foot, bicycle, tram, or boat.

The park can be accessed via Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Please note that while pets are allowed at False Cape State Park, they may not be brought through the wildlife refuge.
When you visit, it'll feel as though you've traveled to the very ends of Virginia. In fact, it's the southernmost park in the state! As the sign reads, it's just 1,146 more miles to Key West.
