There’s something magical about butterflies. Their transformational qualities and beautiful appearance remind us of the magic of nature. While it’s wonderful to spot a butterfly in the wild, there’s something uniquely special about seeing them fluttering around the Butterfly House at Norfolk Botanical Garden. This enclosed space keeps the insects happy and healthy as they travel from one bloom to the next. After you’ve visited with them, you can head to the adjacent Butterfly Maze, which measures an impressive two acres. It’s the perfect family outing to add to your summer itinerary.
Please Note: Norfolk Botanical Garden is currently closed due to the coronavirus. In the meantime, you can familiarize yourself with all the different kinds of butterflies you can look forward to seeing once the exhibit re-opens!
Did you know that there are more than 50 species of butterflies in the Tidewater region of Virginia? Visit Norfolk Botanical Garden's butterfly house, and you can look forward to seeing many of these beautiful creatures.
The enclosed butterfly house, which is included in the price of a general admission ticket, allows visitors to see the butterflies up close and personal.
In addition to butterflies, you'll also spot caterpillars and learn about their habits as they eventually transform into butterflies. Guides will also be able to point out the delicate eggs on various plants inside the house.
Amazingly, the butterfly house is just the beginning. Adjacent to the enclosed structure, you'll find a 2.5-acre butterfly garden and a massive butterfly-shaped maze to enjoy.
