There are so many incredible hiking trails in Virginia that it’s difficult to believe there could be room for any more. Yet new trails are always being planned and added, much to our delight. One prime example is a trail that’s barely two years old, and it’s located in southern Virginia. Here’s more on the newest section of the Patriot Trail in Tazewell, called the Frank Barnes Trail, and why you’ll want to make a point of visiting.

Located in Lincolnshire Park is one of the most picturesque hiking trails in the region: the Patriot Trail.

In 2021, a new section was added to the Patriot Trail and named the Frank Barnes Trail. The trail is named for George F. “Frank” Barnes, Jr., who passed away.

Visitors can learn more about his legacy by reading the on-site memorial plaque.
With the addition of the Frank Barnes Trail, the total length of the trail is now 2.4 miles.
