There’s something about boardwalk trails that inspire adventure. Perhaps it’s the elevated perspective of the landscape or the fact that the trail is totally contained, but this surface can make for an especially pleasant trip. If you agree, then you’ll be delighted to hear of Virginia’s newest boardwalk trail. The Neabsco Creek Boardwalk Trail in Woodbridge is the result of a project 10 years in the making. It’s the newest addition to the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and, measuring less than one mile, promises an immersive experience in this beautiful landscape.
The newly-opened Neabsco Creek Boardwalk Trail is located just a short distance from the Nation's capital in Woodbridge, Virginia.
The project, which cost $3.8 million, was recently completed in June of 2019. Hundreds of eager citizens attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to see this new boardwalk in all of its glory.
The purpose of the boardwalk trail is to provide a unique perspective and immersive experience of the marshland. The trail functions as a low-lying pedestrian bridge.
The boardwalk is just three-quarters of a mile in length, but you'll want to take your time exploring the beautiful marshland surrounding Neabsco Creek.
The boardwalk is a significant way that visitors can learn more about not only the landscape but also the wildlife native to the region. It's an important connection to herons, egrets, ospreys, eagles, foxes, deer, fish, and more.
