Small town Main Streets are picturesque year round, and that’s especially true during the holidays. Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the Christmas lights are out in full force. There’s nothing better than bundling up with plenty of layers and a warm beverage and heading into town to see the spectacle. This year, you’ll want to add Alexandria’s Old Town to your list. This historic Main Street is positively charming during Christmastime.
The town of Alexandria is loaded with tradition, so it stands to reason that Christmastime would be no exception. If you've never experienced King Street this time of year, you're in for a real treat.
It all begins with the thousands of twinkle lights that begin as soon as Thanksgiving winds to an end. Strolling these brick streets, you'll find yourself under a canopy of the most dazzling lights.
Another hallmark of the season is the giant Christmas Tree towering over Market Square. This spectacle makes for the perfect photo op for friends and family.
Perhaps the most unique event of all is the Boat Parade of Lights, a tradition that has become renowned in the DC area and beyond. The event is made all the more magical by the reflection of thousands of lights in the Potomac River.
Just strolling these picturesque streets, you're bound to feel enchanted by the holiday spirit. Grab a cup of hot cocoa or coffee from a local cafe and admire the decorated storefronts. There's a reason this Main Street is considered one of the most picturesque in the U.S.!
Who knows...you may even be serenaded by Christmas carolers! No matter your age, you'll feel glad to have made the trip to visit this magical holiday wonderland.
