While Downton Abbey may be a fictional location, it’s not difficult to believe you’ve arrived at this sweeping British estate when you visit Morven Park in Leesburg. This landmark is situated on a 1,000-acre estate, which serves as both a museum and historic preservation. The area is nicknamed the Central Park of Loudoun County given how beautiful and sprawling the gardens are. Yet we can’t help but compare it all to the famous Downton Abbey. You may just have to visit and see for yourself!
Welcome to Morven Park, a picturesque estate located on 1,000 acres in Leesburg, Virginia. This property consists of the Davis Mansion, photographed above, exquisite grounds, and a carriage museum.
Their home is beautifully decorated with an impressive collection of antiques from around the world. Some of these include Hudson River Valley paintings, hundreds of silver pieces, 16th-century Belgian tapestries, and more.
Each tour of the Davis Mansion includes a viewing of the fully-furnished first and second floors. You'll enjoy learning what life was like in Virginia during the early 20th century, which just happens to parallel the time when the fictional Downton Abbey takes place.
When you visit, you'll want to be sure to tour the Winmill Carriage Museum, a collection of forty antique coaches, carriages, sleds and carts that were donated by Viola Winmill.
Among this collection, you'll see all sorts of styles, ranging from practical to royal. In fact, the calèche that Grace Kelly used in her movie "The Swan" is located here.
So whether you consider yourself a Downton Abbey enthusiast or simply love experiencing Virginia's unique history, you'll find your visit to the Morven Park Estate to be completely enriching.
