There’s a beautiful park tucked away in Fairfax County and it promises to delight family members of all ages. If you’re a longtime resident of this area, you may recall a time when you could visit the picturesque Burke Lake Park and hop on a miniature train that would take you on a scenic adventure through the park. After several years of retirement, the miniature train program is back! The new locomotive promises to delight both children and the adults who once remembered this one-of-a-kind attraction. Here’s more on this delightful and picturesque adventure waiting for you at Burke Lake Park:
In 1967, Burke Lake Park introduced one of its most beloved attractions: a miniature Central Pacific Huntington steam engine that would take passengers on an adventure through the park. By 2005, the locomotive retired, but fortunately, there’s a new model in town that promises the same experience.
The new locomotive looks almost exactly the same as its former version: one-third-scale replica C.P.Huntington. Plus, the technology has been updated to ensure that maintenance is easier than ever. Diagnostic tests, for example, can now be run by computers.
The ride will take passengers on 1.75 miles of scenic track within the park. Traveling between 10 and 12 M.P.H, the entire trip takes just about ten minutes to complete. Yet along the way, you’ll be delighted by the beautiful scenery from this unique perspective.
Perhaps the most beloved attraction of all in the park is the scenic trail, which has been rated among the top 10 best fitness trails in the entire U.S. according to the American Hiking Society.
While the park is open year-round, the miniature train is a seasonal attraction. Generally, the train runs each day from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with the first run of the day leaving at 11:15 a.m. and the last departing at 5:45 p.m.
So whether you’re looking to relive a cherished childhood memory or are hoping to experience something new with your family, you’ll love the opportunity to hop aboard Burke Lake Park’s incredible attraction.
Have you visited Burke Lake Park recently? Did you have a chance to enjoy the seasonal train ride attraction? If so, we’d love to hear from you! For more information, be sure to visit the website by clicking here.
