Christmas shopping can be a source of stress, and understandably so. Whether it’s the lines, the crowded parking lots, or the flashy commercials, there’s something about the sales side of the holiday season that can be rather off-putting.
Fortunately for those of us who live in Virginia, there are several Christmas stores that are nothing short of magical, reminding us of the spirit of the season. Rather than retail chaos and crowds, these places offer authentic joy and cheer. One such place exists, tucked away in the historic town of Smithfield, and it should go to the top of your holiday to-do list. The Christmas Store promises to be a treat for visitors of all ages.
The Christmas Store of Smithfield was opened in 1994 by a couple with a passion for Christmas antiques and collectables. In that spirit, the items offered at this charming spot are truly one of a kind; nothing you’d expect to find in a larger retail store.
After years of traveling, the owners finally opened their store in Smithfield in the small 600-square-foot space location of the Gaming House, built in 1760. Due to popularity and expanding merchandise, the store moved to its current location, a department store dating back to the early 1900s.
Since 2001, this new location has allowed for the true magic of the Christmas Store to develop. Browsing the aisles, shoppers will be delighting to find ornaments, wreaths, decorations, any all the Christmas accessories you’d expect to find in a holiday store.
Open all year round, the Christmas Store is also known for providing decorations for other holidays. Don’t be surprised to see Santa himself helping out during the off-season. And for shoppers looking ahead, there’s an annual Christmas In July sale in July.
After spending time at the Christmas Store, you’ll have plenty of charming sites to see in Smithfield. It could make for a memorable holiday outing and may just be your new Christmas tradition.
The store’s location is 108 Main Street, Smithfield VA 23430. For more information on the store and its hours, click here. Have you visited the Smithfield Christmas Store? Or do you have a favorite spot for your holiday shopping? We’d love to hear from you!
