While all of Virginia’s lakes are certainly exquisite, few people realize that one can be accessed from a mountain peak. Hidden Valley Lake in southwestern Virginia can be found at over 3,000 feet above sea level. This local gem is especially popular among fishermen, although the area also lends itself to other activities such as hiking. Here’s more information about Hidden Lake, your next scenic destination.
Hidden Valley Lake is tucked away in the mountains of southwestern Virginia, just outside of the town of Abingdon.
The 4.4 mile out-and-back trail will take hikers through the scenic Jefferson National Forest as well as to the top of the mountain where Hidden Valley Lake is located.

Even during the winter time the lake is simply exquisite, although conditions at this elevation can be quite cold.
