Summer may feel like it’s slipping right through our fingers, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get outside for a few more memorable adventures.
For example, did you know you could experience emerald green waters that look like something out of a tropical fairytale right here in Virginia? Head to Lake Moomaw outside of Covington for the perfect end-of-summer escape. This recreational area offers a man-made beach, hiking trails, primitive campsites, and the perfect surroundings to fill you up with one last dose of summer magic.
Tucked away in the Appalachians of western Virginia awaits a relatively undiscovered natural gem: Lake Moomaw.
With crystal clear waters sourced from the Jackson River, miles of forested hiking trails, and a beach for relaxing, this destination is an adventure lover's paradise.
The two man-made beaches are located on either side of the lake. The northern beach, found Bolar Mountain Campground, features a bathroom, picnic tables, and nearby parking lot. The second beach, while smaller, is perfect for kayaking, tubing, or swimming.
The park boasts three campgrounds, each of which offers exquisite views of the water. Bolar Mountain Campground is the largest of the three and offers amenities such as bathrooms and electrical hookups.
So whether you're looking for an end-of-summer camping trip, hike, swim, or fishing excursion, you'll completely fall in love with the majestic surroundings offered by Lake Moomaw.
Lake Moomaw is located within the George Washington National Forest, Covington, VA 24484. For more information about the activities offered here, you can visit the official website. Have you visited Lake Moomaw this summer? If so, we’d love to hear about your experience there!
