Summer in Virginia is magical. With warm weather and more daylight to enjoy, we naturally feel inspired to explore all that our state has to offer. But where do we even begin in a state with so many natural attractions? Today, we’ll answer that question with an underrated summer spot that promises to impress. Covering over 13,000 acres, Lake Anna is among Virginia's largest inland freshwater reservoirs. It's the crown jewel of Lake Anna State Park, and you'll love visiting during the summertime.
For one, there's a beach! This manmade shoreline offers the perfect place to set up an umbrella and chair and soak in the views with a good book in hand.
Of course, the beach is just the start of the recreational opportunities that abound at Lake Anna. If you're eager to get on the water, you might be adventurous and try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding. It's scenic, challenging, and most of all, loads of fun!
For those who prefer the land, you'll be delighted by the trail system at Lake Anna. Over 15 miles of trails introduce beautiful hardwood forests and glimpses of the water at every turn.
