If you hail from Virginia, chances are you’ve visited historic Jamestown on more than one occasion, whether that be a school field trip or a family vacation. Yet many folks throughout the U.S. haven’t enjoyed this immersive glimpse into Virginia’s history before. A recently published U.S. travel bucket list has listed Jamestown among 60 must-see destinations this year. We couldn’t agree more! Here’s everything you can look forward to experiencing when you visit this iconic Virginia landmark.
Welcome to Jamestowne, one of the most historically vibrant places to visit in all of Virginia. Colonist history began here in 1607, yet the Native American history long predated the first arrival of settlers.
Many associate the original Jamestowne Colony with the iconic story of the settlers, John Rolfe, and Pocahontas. Yet there's much more to discover, as you'll learn through archeological discoveries on display.
A walking tour of "New Town," which was what Jamestown was once called, will showcase both remaining ruins from the colony as well as reenactments and displays.
At the Jamestown Settlement Pier, you'll discover recreations of the three ships that brought over the English colonists: the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery.
Most of the attractions can be enjoyed within two to three hours, but you could easily spend an entire afternoon experiencing all that the settlement has to offer.
