The International Dark-Sky Association recognizes parks around the globe that aren’t affected by the all-too-common problem of light pollution. East of the Mississippi River, it’s especially rare to find a park without interference from night lights. In March, James River State Park was officially designated as a Dark Sky Park, becoming the second park in Virginia with this designation and the 44th park in the United States. Welcome to the beautiful James River State Park. Since it opened in 1999, this beloved park has welcomed visitors from all over Virginia to explore its picturesque overlooks, fishing ponds, miles of hiking trails, and three miles of river frontage.
