Tucked away in the scenic Appalachian Mountains of Duffield County awaits one of Virginia’s most remarkable natural attractions. The aptly-named Natural Tunnel is a massive cave that doubles as a train tunnel. The state park that features this landmark offers some truly extraordinary walking trails that will lead you on an unforgettable adventure.
Let’s take a look, shall we?
Natural Tunnel, which has been cited as the Eighth Wonder Of The World, has been attracting visitors from near and far for decades.
The Purchase Ridge trail is another beautiful way to experience the tunnel and surrounding landscape. This trek measures 2.7 miles in length and is a bit more challenging with moderate elevation gain.
The park features plenty of opportunities to engage with the area's train history. Photographed above is a portion of a locomotive train located in the visitor's parking lot.
Natural Tunnel State Park is located at 1420 Natural Tunnel Parkway, Duffield, VA 24244.
