The church still functions today and has been wonderfully restored. Whether you visit for a service or tour the grounds, you’ll be fascinated by this impressive landmark.
Tucked away in the historic district of Old Town Alexandria awaits a national treasure known as Christ Church.
This landmark dates back to the days before the United States was recognized as an independent country, and thus it holds an immense amount of history.
When the church was constructed in the mid-eighteenth century, it was built as part of the Church of England's Fairfax Parish.
Construction of the church was financed by collecting 31,186 pounds of Oronoco tobacco from parishioners. The building process began in 1765 and would open for services in 1773.
