Virginia is positively brimming with natural wonders, and you could easily spend a lifetime exploring them all. However, few people realize that the unofficial Eighth Wonder of the World is right here in the Old Dominion. Natural Tunnel, located in Duffield, is a marvelous landmark that can be explored in a number of ways. By far the most memorable is the chairlift that will take you right down to the opening of this fascinating tunnel.
Upon visiting Natural Tunnel for the first time, William Jennings Bryan declared it to be the "Eighth Wonder of the World." Visit today, and you'll likely have the same thought!
Natural Tunnel lives up to its nickname, measuring ten stories high and 850 feet long. The tunnel that exists today was carved out of the limestone ridge over thousands of years.
One of the most memorable ways to enjoy this magnificent natural wonder is via chairlift. It's the only one of its kind in a Virginia State Park, and it's positively picturesque.
The chairlift is seasonal and operates seven days a week between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Between Labor Day and the last full weekend in October, the chairlift operates on weekends only.
After exploring Natural Tunnel, you'll find that there are plenty of additional attractions to explore in the state park.
