Home to wild ponies, magical mountain views, wildflowers, and an abundance of scenery, Grayson Highlands State Park is among the most beautiful of Virginia’s parks. While many outdoor enthusiasts travel here to hike Mount Rogers —the tallest peak in Virginia — there are many other attractions worth experiencing. One such example is Cabin Creek Trail, a short and sweet loop that leads to a beautiful waterfall (and even some smaller falls along the way!). Prepare to be positively charmed by all that awaits you along this picturesque trail.
This exciting adventure in Grayson Highlands State Park begins at the Massie Gap Parking Area.
The trail is well-marked, so you won't lose track of where you are in relation to the rest of the park. The trail requires a bit of climbing, but most hikers agree it's a relatively easy trek.
Along the way, you'll be treated to a series of modest yet beautiful waterfalls. Keep in mind that the trail requires a few stream crossings, so be sure to wear sturdy footwear if you plan on doing this hike.
Another important thing to note is that most hikers opt to go clockwise on the trail to avoid having to 'slide' down some of the rocky and potentially muddy parts of the trail.
Once you reach the waterfall, you'll be mesmerized by the beauty of the water. Plus, there are stocked trout, so visitors are encouraged to fish if they do so responsibly.
No matter your reason for venturing to this trail, you're bound to be impressed by all there is to see!
