At one time, the pastures where the elk freely roam were once part of a strip mine operation. With careful restoration efforts, there are now 400 yards of beautiful grasslands for the elk.

The viewing station can be reached by taking the dirt road from the Southern Gap Outdoor Adventure Center. The platform is shaded and the seats can accommodate 25 people.

In addition to elk, visitors may also see grassland birds, wild turkey, white-tailed deer, and, on occasion, a black bear. How magical!
