Fall in Virginia is the season for road trips. Gorgeous fall foliage illuminates our scenic byways and nature calls to us to explore all of her beautiful attractions. There’s one drive in particular that’s especially stunning this season. And it just so happens to pass by what’s been deemed the Grand Canyon Of The South. Need we say more? Take a look at the following photos and you’ll learn more about this wonderfully scenic drive through southwestern Virginia:
Breaks Interstate Park is a beloved landmark situated right along the Virginia/Kentucky border. There are several ways to access the park, yet we recommend driving along Route 80.
Eventually, the road will take you to the main attraction: Breaks Interstate Park. This 4,500-acre park is filled with mountain views and greenwood lands, truly a nature lover's paradise.
The canyon was formed by the Russell Fork River, shown below. This persistent river carved out a five mile canyon, which is the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi.
Once you've arrived, be sure to take some time to walk around and admire the many jaw-dropping views. Who knew you didn't have to travel far to experience the Grand Canyon?
Whether you’re in it for the hiking trails or the spectacular drive, you’ll be grateful you traveled down this beautiful route and spent time at one of Virginia’s most incredible attractions. Breaks Interstate Park is located at 627 Commission Cir, Breaks, VA 24607. Have you enjoyed this drive before? Be sure to share your experience with us in the comments below!
