There are many people who would argue that fall is the most beautiful season in Virginia. When the bountiful fall foliage begins to transform the landscape, it’s hard to disagree. One of the top destinations for admiring Virginia’s beautiful fall colors is the Birch Knob Observation Tower. Located in Clintwood, this landmark offers sweeping views for as far as the eye can see. If you plan on venturing to this lookout, you’ll definitely want to bring your camera with you!
Tucked away in Dickenson County awaits one of the most striking overlooks in the entire state of Virginia. Birch Knob Observation Tower is in the heart of Appalachia, and at an elevation of 3,144 feet, offers visitors an unparalleled view of the region.
Once you arrive at the top of the tower, which resides at the peak of Pine Mountain, you'll be able to see unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains. Beautiful any time of year, this scene is positively exquisite in the autumn.
Just beyond the rock outcrop, you can view Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. On an especially clear day, it's even possible to see Ohio!
