If you're looking for a dose of gorgeous mountain views, a hike to Hawksbill Summit is a must!
This well-marked trail is one of the more popular hikes in the region, and for good reason. It offers a little bit of everything that makes Shenandoah famous: gorgeous hardwood forests, breathtaking scenery, and if you're lucky, a glimpse of wildlife.
Most hikers recommend taking the loop clockwise for maximum enjoyment. If you're short on time, you can park closer to the trailhead and cut out a significant portion of the trail.
Hawksbill can be hiked any time of the year. It's important to note, however, that conditions at the top can be windy and icy, so be sure to plan accordingly!
One of the noteworthy landmarks is the Hawksbill Summit Shelter #2. Residing at 4,050 feet above sea level, it's the highest elevation in the entire park!
