Tucked away in the beautiful woods of Northern Virginia awaits Mason Neck State Park. With three miles of multi-use trails and loads of scenery, this park is the perfect respite any time of year. The Bayview Trail is particularly lovely, as it includes a meandering boardwalk surface. Hikers can look forward to beautiful views of both the woods and the water when they embark on this relatively easy, 1.2-mile loop.
Mason Neck State Park is just a short drive from Washington D.C., but the minute you arrive, you'll feel like you're in a world all your own.
Perhaps one of the best trails to try out during your first visit is the Bayview Trail. In less than 2 miles, this meandering boardwalk trail takes hikers through hardwood forests, over marshlands, and finally, to beautiful views of Belmont Bay.
You might also consider packing a picnic, since you'll find a few spots that are ideal for sitting and admiring the view. Just don't forget to clean up afterward!
So whether you're looking for a quick stroll or a leisurely afternoon, you'll love all that this relatively uncrowded boardwalk loop has to offer.
