Alright, let’s go ahead and put it out there. When it comes to pizza, there’s no way we’re all going to agree. Some like thick crust, some like thin. Some like traditional toppings and others like to try everything imaginable. But there is one thing we can all agree on – when you find that one pizza that is just right, it’s like magic. There are times when NOTHING tastes better than that perfect slice.
So, while everyone might not agree on all of these places, here are 16 pizza shops in Virginia that make a pie that will keep their customers coming back for more.
1. Pupatella, Arlington
Named the state’s best pizza in TripAdvisor’s FlipKey.com poll, Pupatella is known for fabulously authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas. The parking situation gets a bad rap but the pizza wins time and again. Some things are just worth it.
2. Salvatore’s Pizzeria, Virginia Beach
Known for their authentic Sicilian pizzas and out-of-this-world garlic knots, Salvatore’s is a favorite for the Virginia Beach crowd. Their expansive menu and wine list far exceed the expectations you might have from a strip mall pizza joint.
3. Pizzeria Orso, Falls Church
Wood-fire pizza with authentic Italian flair is what makes this local Falls Church stop a favorite. A kid-friendly atmosphere and broad menu ensure that there is something for everyone – including amazing sandwiches, pastas and salads. Stop in mid-week for "Tuesday kids eat free night" or try the half-price wine nights on Wednesday.
4. Crozet Pizza, Crozet and Charlottesville
Since 1977, publications like National Geographic, USA Today, and Fodor’s Travel Guide have listed Crozet Pizza as some of the best pizza in the country. Perhaps its because Bob Crum and his wife Karen personally made every pizza for 27 years before handing ownership over to their daughter in 2004. But it seems to run in the family, because Crozet Pizza is still making amazing pizzas in their homey little shop in Crozet. In 2012 they've opened a new location in Charlottesville.
5. Basilico Italian Market and Deli, Fredericksburg
This deli is considered one of Fredericksburg’s best-kept secrets. In addition to imported groceries and baked goods, they offer a full-menu of amazing foods, including authentic Italian pizzas, calzones, strombolis and paninis. It's no wonder they receive consistently outstanding reviews.

You’ve heard of a "New York Slice", well step aside, New York, because Benny’s brings you the "Virginia Slice" – and they’re not playing. 12. Tony and Milena’s, Hayes
As we’ve found with many of our places, a run-of-the-mill strip mall has nothing to do with the AMAZING food that comes out of it. Tony’s and Milena’s is known as "the real deal" when it comes to Italian food and authentic pizza in the Gloucester area.
13. Vito’s Italian Kitchen, Harrisonburg

15. CJ’s Pizza, Wytheville
Since 1982, CJ’s has been serving up super-fresh pizza with fantastically unique toppings.
